This morning during Fundations students reviewed the glued sounds that we have been learning. They had the opportunity to lead the group and share their knowledge. We have been working on (ink, onk, ank, ing ung) adding consonants and blends to the beginning and the suffix s.

In reading and writing we are working on informational text and our focus has been dinosaurs and fossils. Our topic in Religion this week is our parish family and who/what is the church. We will be progressing to learning about Pope Francis.

In math our objectives have centered around fractions for 1/4 and 1/2. Today we had fun with food fractions and the pizza fraction puzzles. Everyday we begin our math class with some fact fluency. This week we are playing games with dice. I will continue to send them home for you to practice with your children. The students are expected to know their addition from 0 to 10 fluently. This means that they should be able to do about 30 problems in 2 minutes. Knowing these facts greatly helps their number sense as they progress to higher number addition and subtraction. It would be helpful if you had dice and deck of cards at home to support these math games.

In science we will begin learning about sound. I have many fun experiments and projects planned. Please continue to send in recycled items- tissue boxes, towel rolls, oatmeal containers. During Catholic schools week we are hopeful that parents will be able to attend the open house night and share a science activity with their child.
