D.I.C.E. is a way to approach word problems. The D is for dissect. Read the problem twice, circle the numbers and key words, and underline the question.  The I is for illustrate. Draw circles or place value blocks and cross out if subtracting. The C is for calculate. Write and solve the math equation. Use the illustration to support your thinking and help to solve. The E is for explain. Write a sentence to answer the question and write about your thinking/process. I don't expect proficiency at this point in the year but I would like to see the circle & underling, a set of dots and a math sentence. We have been working on this in class for a few weeks.

The unit two math assessment is scheduled for next Tuesday.  It will cover addition and subtraction to twenty, word problems, fact families(the relationship between adding and subtracting), the equal sign, and missing addends.
