Rainy Wednesday

We had a busy day which began in the usual way. After morning meeting the students in 1A took their unit 3 Fundations test on digraph sounds (ch, sh, ck, th, wh). In Religion we prayed and talked about the prayer "Our Father." Students then received cut up strips of the prayer to glue back in order onto a book mark. Next was Music class with Mrs. Burton. She incorporates singing, rhythm, movements, and instruments into class. After that was Reading block where we work in groups and discuss books. Students read the book or passage 2-3 times for decoding and comprehension. We have been working on problem/solution, author's purpose, sequence, and main idea. This week at centers students listened to "The Haunted House That Jack Built", played sight word games(SPLAT, Snakes & Ladders, and Matching games), and used words with the short u sound in sentences. In math we have been using addition and subtraction strategies to solve problems up to 20, playing fluency games, and connecting addition & subtraction using fact families. It was an indoor recess day. At the end of the day we had Social Studies with 1B where students began a mapping unit with the book"Me on the Map."

Lots going on over the next week- Thurs- stuffed animal day; Friday- Misfit Sock day (please send in a few for a project); Tuesday is Halloween-wear gym uniform; Wed is Mass; Thursday 11/2/17 please send in a shoe box for science lab.
