This week we have continued to learn about U.S. symbols and patriotism. We have been singing the national anthem and read books on Reading A to Z. Yesterday we read a book called"Our Class Flag." Like the students in the book, we made flags with symbols of ourselves and our class.

Today we watched a Brainpop junior on American symbols. Next we broke into groups with 1B to read text and develop informational posters. Each group made a poster for one of the symbols.

Speaking of symbols, in math we are really focusing on strategies for subtraction. We use cubes, chips, number lines and drawings to solve problems. It is important to not use fingers as we will be progressing to bigger numbers soon.

Math fact fluency flash cards were sent home. Please try to practice 1-2 times per week. Also sight word materials were sent home last week for practice. Progress notes went home today. They follow a new format. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. It needs to be returned by October 24.
