Today was an awesome day in first grade! We began with MAP testing over at the computer lab. The first graders enjoy solving the problems and like working on the iPads. On our way back we stopped to have our Religion class at Mary's statue. Next was library with Mrs. Johnson. To end the morning we had reading block with the help of Sister Ellen. During reading students did a close read of an ice cream story. This was a nice follow up to the ice cream place value project we did yesterday.

The best part of the day was after recess. Students did a STEM project with 1B. Earlier this week we read two Scaredy Squirrel books. The goal was to build a way for Scaredy to get his acorns up the tree. Students were given cardboard, clay, paper, and a straw. The variety of designs was impressive! The students perservered and adjusted their solutions. In addition, many of the first graders used their imaginations to enhance their designs! They gave great, detailed explanations of how their tool worked.
