Students have had a good week so far. We are really getting into our routine and know where things are in our classroom. Reading centers have started with listening center, word work and read with the teacher. I am in the process of assessing phonemic awareness, ability to read short vowel words, and having each student read the benchmark passages of the leveled readers. It has been great to have the opportunity to get to know each child better as a learner. In Math we are gradually working our number sense to 120 and are building numbers in many ways using manipulatives. Yesterday we made number lines and today used them to play a ten frame game.

Over the past few days we have put the finishing touches on a number of projects for you to see when you come to school to learn about the curriculum and expectations for the classroom. I am excited to meet each of you and share information for first grade!
