It has been a busy week in 1A! We began Fundations lessons on Tuesday and each day we reviewed 3 letter sounds and their formation. Everyday we "wake up" Mama Echo (our owl) and "Baby Echo" as we practice the sounds. We listened to the read aloud "Miss Nelson is Missing" and developed bucket filler rules for our classroom. With 1B we had a shared reading of "Apple Trees" and learned reading strategies. We acted out the life cycle of an apple tree. In writing we wrote about ourselves and made silly self portraits. When you visit the classroom Tuesday evening you can try to guess which one is your child.
In Math we have continued with counting and number sequencing 0-40. This has involved centers with unifix cubes, number strips, and number cards. We talked about ways numbers are part of our life everyday and made a Numbers About Me project. Students watched a video (A Dog Named Ten) to practice addition facts. In Religion we had prayer circle and shared our asking and thanking prayers.
Today students shared their special object and writing with their classmates. They really seemed to understand that the assignment wasn't to just bring in a toy but to bring in something that had special meaning for them. To end the day students had "Fun Friday" center choices. There were five choices that targeted different learning styles and interests.
