What a glorious day to honor Mary our Mother! The first grade and fourth grade students sang loud and clear. The fourth grade said their parts so that all could hear. Both first grades recited the "Holy Mary Full of Grace" prayer with enthusiasm.
This week we are finishing the unit 6 math curriculum and will have an assessment to check the students' understanding of telling time to the half hour, make bar graphs and tally marks, and measuring and comparing length. On Tuesday we measured everyone's long jump. The three longest in the class were Tiffany, Trevon, and Trent. They jumped over 50 inches!!!
In Fundations we have been chunking words and counting syllables. As always, we match the sound with a kinesthetic activity. For syllables we touch our wrist, elbow, shoulder, and head as we count the syllables. Ask your child to show you how many syllables are in their name and how many are in Cuningham.
In science this week we checked on our worms/compost. Thankfully one worm was still alive! We also compared different types of seeds and have been reading about plants, seeds, and bulbs. While doing this we have been recording the main idea and supporting details on a flower shaped graphic organizer. Students finished writing and illustrating their Worm books. We began sharing them with the class today.
