Today students discussed the upcoming blizzard. We know that the temperature needs to be below freezing and that is 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 Celsius. Other factors in a blizzard are high winds and rapid snowfall. We enjoyed an afternoon snack and indoor recess today. The calm before the storm.

As we dive into our unit 5 math, students made posters to show their strategies for addition and problem solving. Students used their knowledge of doubles facts and sum of ten to help them solve three addend problems. Then students solved a two part word problem using the DICE strategy. After that students played a subtraction fact fluency review game.

In Fundations we are working on partner vowels (ai, oa, ee, ue) and r-controlled vowel words (ar, er, ir, ur). Students read and say the patterns as they begin to learn it. In reading students have been reading texts and recording their voices on RazKIds. This helps students to hear their own reading progress and fluency. We have been doing close reading which means reading for specific detail. Students read the passage three times, find the main idea, details, and key vocabulary words.
