It's great to be back and following a normal routine. The students were excited to share news about their Christmas day and wrote "first, next, then, last" sequence narratives. Each student had the opportunity to read what they had written. In Fundations, we are continuing with "glued" sounds and development of word families. We have been working on -ing, -ang-, -ong, and -ung sounds and have added -ank, -ink, -onk, -unk. Students are able to read and write many words using these sounds (ring, song, think, thing etc). Students are all reading books about dinosaurs and fossils during Guided reading. As we read these informative, leveled texts, students have been discussing and classifying information. Today students went on a non-fiction text features "scavenger hunt." In a few days we will be developing informational writing pieces. While at centers students use RAZKIDS on the Ipads, read with a partner, and complete word work writing papers with sight words and games. This week a "Word Family Fluency" and a sentence game were added.
Today was "word problem Wednesday" for math. Students solved missing addend word problems using the DICE strategy. We worked on two problems as a class and then students completed 2 problems with a partner. Students also have fluency and fact practice for addition and subtraction every day as a warm-up. During this third unit of math the focus has been on geometry and fractions. Students are learning half, quarter, fourth, whole and parts of whole. Please practice this language as you share pizza or a cake.
Thank you for your continued support at home with sight word practice and using RAZKIDS.
