Today the students completed the first part of their MAP testing. They did a great job staying focused as they completed this assessment. In class today we watched a video about Maple trees. Afterwards we collected leaves on the playground. Unfortunately, the leaves were quite dry and lacked color. I requested that the children look for colorful leaves during their adventures over the long weekend. Using a chart, students identified maple and other types of leaves. We discussed the features of different types of leaves.

This week in Math we are finishing up unit 1 and reviewing greater than/less than, practicing addition problems with missing addends, and reviewing place value with expanded form. In Reading students had guided reading groups, short vowel word work and sight word games. At listening center the students listened to "There was an Old Lady who Swallowed Some Leaves." In religion we have been learning about Jesus' family.

Tomorrow is Grandparent's day and I am excited to meet as many grandparents as possible. The students made something for them and are also ready to share their journals with them.
