What started out as a rainy dreary day turned into a day with rays of sunshine poking through. Our prayers were answered! The first graders were well dressed for apple picking in wet weather (boots, rain jackets, and hats). We arrived at Brooksby Farm in Peabody around 9:30 this morning. First we boarded a hay ride pulled by a big green tractor that drove us out to the orchard. Once there, students were given a bag to fill with apples. There were so many apples to choose from! After the bags were full we again boarded the hay ride to drive through the farm. Next we were given ice cream cones to feed the barn yard animals. We saw goats, sheep, pigs, chicken, emu, a peacock, a donkey, and pheasants, The animals really loved the plain ice cream cones we fed to them. After that we had our lunches in a green house area set up with tables. Last we boarded the bus to travel back to Melrose. Thank you to the wonderful and most helpful chaperones! I hope you enjoy the apples the students brought home!
