Students did a great job recalling the routines from last week. Today for English Language Arts (ELA) we wrote in our writing notebooks, did ABC centers and discussed what centers look like and sound like and had our first Fundations lesson of the year. Echo, the owl, was excited that she got to help with the lesson. Ask your child who Echo is if you do not know. This may be review but this unit provides an important foundation for the new material covered in first grade.
We also made a silly self portrait and wrote clues to describe ourselves. At the end of the day we reviewed the story Wemberly Worried and completed our puppets. We practiced telling the beginning and ending of the story using the main character, Wemberly.
In Math this week we will be counting and discussing if a number is more or less than another number and begin practice counting to 120. We will progress to working on place value and discuss what a "ten" is. Students will use counters to build numbers and write on number lines.
Tomorrow we go with the school to our first Mass of the year. I am excited to share this with my students.
